Welcome to Tech Savvy Teens, Hawaii’s leading initiative focused on equipping middle and high school students with essential technology skills while providing crucial support to our kūpuna (seniors). Our mission is to close the digital divide, promote digital equity across generations, and prepare Hawaii's youth for success in the modern workforce.
Aligned with Hawaii’s Digital Equity Plan 2024, we work to ensure that underserved populations, including kūpuna, low-income families and individuals with disabilities, have access to the technology and digital skills they need to thrive in today’s world. Many kūpuna also fall into the category of disabled individuals, and we are dedicated to providing specialized support, helping them navigate digital tools and improving their quality of life through access to services like telehealth, online banking, and social platforms.
Through our partnership with Connected Nation and their Teens Teach Tech curriculum, Tech Savvy Teens participants are trained in digital literacy, software, and tech support skills. Our goal is to meet each individual where they are in their digital journey, offering tailored assistance to ensure everyone benefits from the technology available to them. Youth in the program bridge generational gaps by sharing their knowledge with kūpuna and other vulnerable groups, ensuring everyone, regardless of age or ability, experience the advantages of digital inclusion.
We are committed to inclusivity and workforce development. Our program welcomes students from diverse backgrounds, particularly those from underrepresented communities. Together, we are building a more inclusive workforce and strengthening Hawaii’s economy. By dedicating a minimum of 30 hours to volunteering at senior centers across the islands, students become eligible to take the IC3 Digital Literacy certification exam. This certification equips them with the skills to navigate cloud technologies, mobile tools, and software, enabling them to help others communicate safely and evaluate the credibility of online information.
Join us in shaping the future of technology in Hawai and learn how you can get involved in our goals to promote digital equity and workforce development across the islands.
Tech Savvy Teens is part of an afterschool workforce development program created and run by Acton Digital Academy, a 501c nonprofit organization based in Kaneohe, Hawaii.
